Tech Spotlight: Mailbox

iOS 7 isn’t the best thing to happen to your iPhone this fall. Here at Hukkster, we’re all about staying organized - whether it’s keeping track of the products you’re dreaming of or staying on top of our email, we’re crazy for anything that saves us some time and makes our lives a little easier. That’s why we’re obsessed with Mailbox; it’s the perfect tool for keeping your inbox organized!

Snooze Your Emails

Let’s say you get a Hukkster alert for those Kate Spade booties you’ve been eyeing, but you’re stuck in a meeting and won’t have a chance to buy them until later. Or your boss emails you about starting a project, but you’re out with friends and can’t get started on it until you get home. With Mailbox, you can simply swipe the email to the left and snooze it. It will pop up again whenever you want it to - later that day, tomorrow, even months from now. Avoid a cluttered inbox and keep track of what you need to get done.

Clear Out Your Inbox

Mailbox provides a fun, little motivator to get your to-do’s done every day. If you’ve attended to and archived (or snoozed) all your emails, your empty inbox will reward you with a different photo every day; you can tap it to see the full image. It might not be much, but the satisfaction of seeing that empty inbox is more exciting than you might think.

Change Your Default Browser

This is one of our favorite features of Mailbox. If you’re one of those people who prefers not to use Safari, but can’t be bothered to copy and paste links from emails into your preferred browser, you’re going to love this. In Mailbox, just go to settings and scroll down to “Default Browser” at the bottom. You can select any browser you have on your phone - we’re big fans of Chrome - and any link you click in an email will automatically open in that browser. Pretty genius, right?

Mailbox is available for your iPhone/iPad + Gmail.

Hukk for the Job You Want (or already have!)

Now that summer is coming to a close, it is officially time to say goodbye to all of our ‘it’s hot outside so I can get away with this at work’ outfits. This isn’t bad news, though - think of all the cozy sweaters in the back of your closet! In fact, colder weather means more layers, AKA more ways to spice up your look. Here’s a look at what we’re hukking for our fall work wardrobes.

1. Colorful coats and blazers can be game changers when paired with some of your monochromatic wardrobe staples.

2. Heeled booties allow you to stand on your feet at work all day and still look happy hour ready when 5 p.m. rolls around. Try ‘em with a pair of slouchy pants for a comfy, sophisticated look.

3. Three of this seasons hottest colors - grey, black and blue - just happen to be our favorites, so we’ll be lusting after anything in one of those (or all) hues.

4. Sweatshirts have transformed into chic classics that go well with any pair of jeans, perfect for casual Friday.

5. Dark nails and lips. We’ve been waiting all summer for the moment when we could start rocking essie's Wicked again and that time has come. Pairing one of the many black dresses in your closet with a deep red lip is the perfect way to spice up your look and be day-to-night ready!

Phillip Lim x Target

If you’re like us, then you’ve been counting down the days until Septemeber 15th – the launch of Target’s latest collaboration with genius designer Phillip Lim. The CFDA winner’s line for the retail giant, ranging in price from $14.99 to $299.99, will be hitting online and in stores this Sunday at 8AM EST.

Our friends at RACKED put together a piece-by-piece look book of Phillip Lim x Target collection, giving us a sneak peek at the must have times. After the crowds that followed their press tour around the country, we have a pretty good feeling the lines are going to be out of control on Sunday morning. Which is why we’re gearing up to shop online, from the comfort of our homes, early this Sunday morning.

Below are some of the items, that we’ll be hukking since, well let’s face it, the only thing better than scoring an item from the Phillip Lim x Target collection is getting it on sale. Check back early for the full Hukkster list!

Mark your calendars! September 30th is officially September Cyber Monday at Target - start hukking to score those crazy cyber deals!

Patricia Field, Style Icon

Remember the hundreds of outfits worn by the four iconic New York women that shaped your idea of what’s in style? Carrie Bradshaw’s nameplate necklace anyone? The subject of two Emmy Awards?

Jump ahead a few years to Britney’s crystal bodysuit at the 2000 VMAs. Patricia Field - cutting edge stylist extraordinaire - is behind so many of the looks that caught our eye and dared us to be bold in our quest to develop our own personal style.

"The Devil Wears Prada" - yeah, she styled that too (and got nominated for an Academy Award).

Hukkster, with the genius of Patricia Field, is making history this year at Fashion Week. Check out our behind the scenes video for a sneak peek and don’t forget to #BETHERE today, Monday, September 9th at Lincoln Center (9:30am, 12:30pm & 2:30pm).

Fall Fashion Must-Haves

Yes, we’re sad that the summer nights are getting shorter and we’ll soon have to pack away our maxi dresses for the return of balmier weather, but we’re at least a little excited that fall is right around the corner.

Even though we’re no longer going back to school, the season still brings a sense of possibility and a fresh start; the same feeling we’d get waiting for the bus on the first day of classes armed with our brand new marble notebook and high-waisted Guess Jeans. Although our tastes have evolved, we’ve still been eyeing products that have us excited for the fall!

A few members of Team Hukkster, have shared their must haves this season…

Sarah, Operations

"In my opinion, these Theory Piall K Pant In Classical Stretch are a staple for every woman’s wardrobe. They have a sophisticated, upscale look without the couture price point. I would wear it with a patterned sweater and a pair of black booties.”

Amanda, VP of Marketing

One of my favorite accessories to date is a small, cream, structured vintage purse that looks like it snuck out of Jackie O.’s closet. I’ve had my eye on this larger, more modern version of it from ONE by Michaella Barri and love the bright pop of color it would add to my wardrobe. Want/Need/Want/Need?!”

Rachel, Technology & Customer Service

"Every year I look for a cozy coat I can wear through the fall to help me get over the transition into the colder months. I usually go with black (my favorite staple color for every occasion, 24/7) but I love this Ulla Johnson Astrid Jacket in gray with just a black accent for a change. Also, the classic tweed fabric in such a modern cut is perfect to wear to work and on the weekends!”

Rebecca, Human Resources

"As a major creature of habit, I wore the same pair of sandals nearly everyday this summer. I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect black booties to take their place this fall. The delicate gold detailing and day-to-night heel height on the Tory Burch Kayden Bootie will ensure that I can make these a staple in my wardrobe.”

I Tried it: The Cronut Chronicles

The Hukkster office has been buzzing for weeks about the latest trend in sugar to storm New Yorkers’ tongues. Cupcakes and Macarons, while still tasty, have ceded the spotlight to the newest “it” dessert: the Cronut (N.B. Cronut should always be capitalized). A group of hungry hukksters recently set out on a fact-finding mission to determine if the croissant-donut hybrid was worthy of the hype. In their own words, here’s the inside scoop on how they scored Cronuts.

At 6:30 AM, we arrived at 189 Spring Street - the SOHO storefront where Cronut inventor Monsier Ansel fronts his famous pastries - only to discover that the infamous line was already down the block. Soon, we overheard someone counting, pinpointing our group as number 70 in line, despite the bakery not opening for another hour and a half. Tip for the reader: rumor has it that those arriving before 6:45 are more likely to walk away with a Cronut.

We bided our time in line by taking bleary-eyed selfies, drinking copious amounts of coffee, and enjoying freshly baked madeleines distributed by one of Mr. Ansel’s bakers to the mostly patient crowd. At 8:00, the bakery doors swung open and the extraordinarily chic Mr. Ansel stood as a beacon of gastronomic hope to welcome each entering group (“Give me your tired, your poor, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free eat Cronuts”…right?).

Our excitement grew as we inched closer to the intoxicating smell of freshly baked pastries. We knew that customers are limited to two Cronuts each, so we were ready to order as soon as we entered, despite an abundance of other tempting confections like the Mr. Ansel’s personal favorite, the DKA  (Dominique’s Kouign Amann”).

Having successfully picked up our prize, we made our way back to the Hukkster office, somehow without eating the Cronuts first.  Cheers broke out when we revealed to the team what we had with us, though the effusive praises of gratitude quickly turned to a silence as we all took our first bites. Combining the warm, fried deliciousness of a doughnut with the light and flaky texture of a croissant (and layered with cream, icing, and a delicious Blackberry Lime filling), we savored our Cronuts.

Yes, there has been a lot of hype surrounding the Cronut, but to the doubtful we say, it’s worthy!  Certainly the long line and limited supply are inconvenient, but they make the prize that much sweeter. And truthfully, the wait is a blessing in disguise - otherwise we’d be back for more tomorrow!
